Top 6 Favorite Kids Halloween Books

Top 6 favorite kids halloween books

It’s that time of year again. Fall is upon us. There are many different ways to celebrate the beginning of the pumpkin spice season. However, my kids and I love pulling out their Halloween books; it really gets us in the fall spirit. There are numerous fall-themed kids’ books out there but below I’m going to list a few of our absolute favorites with a little description of each one. If you’re looking for spooky kids’ stories to get yourself and your children ready for the pumpkin season, check out one (or all) of these great books.

⦁ Vera’s Halloween

This year, Vera is finally old enough to trick-or-treat in the dark. When she accidently gets separated from her dad and older sisters, her night takes an unexpected turn. However, all ends well as she concludes her Halloween was more amazing than she ever thought possible.

⦁ Beneath The Ghost Moon

The rhythm of this story will draw any child in. Under a ghost moon while the mice are sleeping soundly, monsters enter their house and destroy their Halloween costumes. When the mice awaken to find the disaster, they are so upset that they first decide to leave the house forever. However, they soon realize they must defend what is rightfully theirs.

⦁ The Bones of Fred McFee

This is also a fun rhyming book. When a brother and sister get a Skeleton from a harvest festival, they decide to name him Fred McFee and hang him in their backyard. Fred spooks everyone around, even the dog and rooster. That is, until the day he vanishes.

⦁ We’re Off to Find the Witch’s House

Follow a group of trick-or-treaters on their Halloween adventure to find The Witch’s house. What creepy things might they run into on their way? This is yet another rhyming story and the phrases are rather catchy. I find myself singing it to my kids as we flip through the colorful pages.

 Mrs. McMurphy’s Pumpkin

On the days leading up to Halloween, Mrs. McMurphy finds a creepy pumpkin hanging around her house every morning, threatening to eat her. However, she will get the last laugh (and the last taste).

⦁ Turkey Trick-or-Treat

Is trick-or-treating really only for kids? How about humans? When the farm animals decide they deserve some Halloween treats too, a turkey sets out to find the perfect costume and score himself and his friends some candy. After many failed disguises, he realizes he’s had the perfect costume all along and he and the farm animals finally get to enjoy some Halloween treats.

I know you will enjoy these stories as much as we do!
